However, more and more companies are starting to offer one of the most progressive, sought-after benefits to date: tuition assistance.
What is Tuition Assistance?
Tuition assistance programs are a type of employee benefit in which an employer reimburses employees for a percentage of the costs associated with education.
Assistance usually comes in the form of reimbursements for tuition, fees, and books.
Some companies pay for an unlimited number of courses that may or may not be directly related to an employee’s current job, while others give a yearly amount of money that goes toward the employee’s tuition.
With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the big names offering tuition assistance.
Starbucks works with Arizona State University to provide full tuition for ASU’s online learning programs and degrees.
That’s right! Every benefits-eligible U.S. partner working part-time or full-time receives 100% tuition coverage for a first-time bachelor’s degree through Arizona State University’s online program.
- Enroll at Arizona State University.
- Work an average of 20 hours a week.
Chipotle allows employees to use up to $5,250 per year of tuition reimbursement at any school.
You may also use this towards the degree your choosing.
Chipotle offers to cover a wide selection of programs including healthcare, psychology, art and design, and more
- Eligible after 120 days of employment.
- Must complete 15 hours of work per week at Chipotle.
UPS will provide up to $5,250 per calendar year and a lifetime maximum of up to $25,000 from the day the employee is hired.
Additionally, UPS offers its employees additional training throughout the year to motivate and advance their staff and teach them how to work better.
- Fulfill their hourly work requirements.
Amazon believes everyone should have the opportunity to learn new skills and build their career.
For eligible employees, Amazon will pay up to 95% of tuition and fees towards a certificate or diploma in qualified fields of study.
- Have worked at Amazon for at least a year.
- Must go into one of the following fields of study: Transportation, Healthcare, Mechanical and Skilled Trade, and IT & Computer Science.
The Home Depot’s Tuition Reimbursement Program helps salaried, full-time, and part-time hourly associates who enroll in college, university, and technical school courses in order to obtain an associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, or technical degree.
Home Depot offers up to $5,000, full-time hourly employees $3,000, and part-time hourly up to $1,500 per calendar year.
- Attend one of their partner universities.
- Your course selection must meet the eligibility requirements.
McDonald’s offers employees with a performance rating of “significant performance” or better, are eligible for $2,500 in Tuition Assistance each year through the Archways to Opportunity Program.
The Archways to Opportunity program provides eligible U.S. employees an opportunity to earn a high school diploma, receive upfront college tuition assistance, access free education advising services, and learn English as a second language.
