It’s almost winter break!

A time for catching up with friends and celebrating the holidays with loved ones. ⁣

This is also a great opportunity to get a head start on college applications. ⁣

Or if you are a senior, keep working on your applications for both colleges and scholarships.⁣

So, with that being said, here are some things to work on during break!⁣

Find Volunteer Opportunities.⁣

Usually, we would recommend doing physical college tours. But this year is a little different.

Due to COVID-19, many schools are offering virtual college tours for interested students.

We highly recommend you schedule a visit, as it will show interest in a specific school!

⁣Schedule virtual college visits.

Many high schools have a set amount of volunteer hours required for graduation.

Winter break is a great time to get those hours out of the way.

From working at foodbanks to volunteering at toy drives, this is a great opportunity to help this in need during the holidays.

Research schools to add to your list.⁣

By now, you should have a few schools added to your potential college list.

Remember that this list should generally consist of 9 to 12 schools.

We recommend you use this time to really research and get to know some schools you might be interested in applying to.

For Seniors

Search and apply for scholarships.⁣

This is a great time to continue to apply for scholarships.

Since your college applications should mostly be done by now, use this time to focus on completing scholarship applications.

Don’t procrastinate, as more scholarships can lead you to attend your dream school.

Check on letters of recommendation.⁣

If you asked your teachers, coach, or high school counselor to write a letter of recommendation, this is a great time to touch base with them.

Keep in mind that this is a busy time for a lot of people, so some people might need a few reminders from time to time.

Finish college application essays.⁣

If you haven’t finished your college applications, use this time to finish everything up so you can enjoy your final semester of high school.

Make sure that you proofread your essays and send your transcripts in time.
